 The time for examination of the semi-conductor application is abridged.---updated on November 11, 1999

Korean Industrial Property Office said that the time for examination of the semi-conductor application is abridged for three months. Accordingly, applicant can obtain the first preliminary official action within 29 months from filing date. The office said that unil next year, KIPO plans to abridge the time to become 24 months.

KIPO will start to do the international search service for PCT application as of December 1, 1999-----updated of November 12, 1999.

The Korean Intellectual Property Office has been designated as International search office and preliminary examination office for the PCT application. As a result of it,Korean Intellectual Property Office will start to do the prior art search service as of December 1, 1999 for the PCT application in which the "KIPO" was designated as the serach office in so far as the specification has been made of Korean or English.

The chanel company has raised the suit before the district court to cancel the domain name including alphabet of chanel. In decision made by the court, the judge decided to cancel the domain name registration and ordered the domain name administrator in Korea to delete the corresponding domain name. Accordingly, in Korea, it is impossible to register domain name similar to the worldwide famous mark.
